We have some of the most amazing night sky views in the country. This area of the U.P can even see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) many times throughout the fall and winter season. On a clear night, the entire Milky way spreads out and is an amazing sight. For traditional stargazing, our property is amazing and you can get some great photographs on a clear night. If you are interested in chasing the Northern Lights, use the below websites/groups to track the best opportunities to spot them and head up to the Keweenaw Peninsula looking over Lake Superior for some of the clearest viewing of this phenomenon.

The Upper Peninsula has amazing hiking trails, whether you are looking for forest trails or waterfalls, easy or moderate terrain. There is a little something for everyone. Check out Alltrails.com for additional details on the trail systems near us. Note: Some trails may open later or close earlier due to weather conditions. Please verify beforehand.
Lake Superior and the Keweenaw Peninsula are home to some of the most amazing rocks. Lake Superior Agates are highly prized, however there are other amazing rock specimens available up and down the shore of Lake Superior. Yooperlites are an amazing glow in the dark rock that requires a special flashlight and are best found in the spring or after a storm and at night time. A few fun rockhounding places are shown on the map.
We are located on the snowmobiling trail system that spreads from the National Forest all the way over to Marquette and beyond, or up into the Keweenaw Peninsuala. You can visit: https://www.upsnowmobiling.com/trail-maps/houghton or https://www.upsnowmobiling.com/trail-maps/baraga to download the most current Houghton County and Baraga County snowmobile maps. Trail maps below are current as of December 2024. We are located right on the border of these two counties. You can follow FR 2270 from our driveway directly to Trail #12 and Trail #109. FR 2270 is a minimum maintenance road that allows sleds during the winter. We have ample parking for snowmobile trailers, but please confirm the number of people and trailers prior to arrival so that we have correct parking allocated for your group. Only park trailers in designated areas assigned to you as we have other guests who may be arriving and need space as well. Snowmobiles can be ridden on the driveway, but please keep them off the yard and walking trails.

Hunting season of one sort or another can run from August through March. While Deer and Turkey hunting are probably the most popular in the area, there are seasons for Bear, Rabbit, Crow, Elk, Pheasant, Quail, Grouse, Squirrel, Waterfowl and Woodcock. There are also separate seasons for furbearing animals such as Bobcat, Coyote, Fox, Racoon, Badger, Fisher, Marten, Muskrat, Mink, Otter and Beaver. With direct access to the National Forest, hunting is very convenient.
Fishing season runs from April to December for specific fish out of different lakes and rivers in the area. We are right down the road from Prickett Lake and 10 miles from Lake Superior. The most popular species of fish caught in Prickett Lake are the Northern pike, smallmouth bass and largemouth bass, as well as Bluegill, Rainbow Trout, Walleye and Yellow Perch. Lake Superior is the largest freshwater lake in the world (in area) and hosts over 80 species of fish, including the ever popular salmon.
Please review the Michigan DNR website for specific season dates and permit/license requirements.
Berry Picking (summer/fall): Depending on the season, this area has some great berry picking. Strawberries can be picked in June, Raspberries from July to mid-August and Blueberries are typically August into October (or until frost). There are pick your own farms all around the Keweenaw Peninsula where you can spend a fund afternoon picking your own fruit for a great price.
